~A MOTHER'S FAITH ~
(First Preached in Regina, May 13th, 1962)

TEXT: 2 Timothy 1:5 “Unfeigned Faith”

1. This Faith was genuine. It was real enough to cause a Jewess girl to take her stand and train up a Timothy in the scriptures, in spite of opposition from an unsaved, Gentile husband.

2. This Faith was persistent. Fair days and foul she taught him, against odds that would have caused many mothers to give up.

3. This Faith was patient. She must have witnessed many setbacks. Many discouragements as that Grecian father influenced the boy. Yet the lad patiently trusted in God.

4. This was Rewarded Faith. The day came when Paul arrived in Derbe and Lystra, and young Timothy gave his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ. Then another day came when Paul took this young man with him into the service of the Lord on his missionary trips.

What a reward it must have been to her faith that day as she tenderly packed his suitcase, folding his shirts and handkerchiefs, lovingly tucking in some remembrance of herself and home. She saw to it that his script was there. Then she wished her son God speed as he struck out on his first journey with Paul into far off Phillipia and European cities with the Gospel.

How well I remember the day when my own mother who was a woman of faith and prayer wished me a tender farewell. She was poor in this world’s goods, but rich in heavenly things. She lovingly packed my suitcase with a pair of jeans and a couple shirts and pairs of socks, as I set out to answer God’s call on my life. She laid her gnarled hands on my head and asked God to bless me with many hearts won into the Kingdom of God. I had no dad but mother made up for it with her godly wisdom.

What a heritage for any young person. To have a godly mother who never gives up praying. Who makes her consecration with yours and bids you do the will of God.

5. This was a living memorial faith. “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in you… If you want to leave your sons and daughters an inheritance, then leave them the example of unwavering faith in God.

6. Faith is a gift from God.2 Tim.1:6. Context shows that this is talking of the faith that was in Timothy’s heart, which is a gift of God.

7. Influencing Faith: Dwelt first in the grandmother Lois, then in mother Eunice.

Three generations were affected: Generational faith!

"God, give all our mom’s that kind of Godly tenacity!"
