Blog: Diamond Wedding Anniversary

….60 years ago this morning I woke up for the last time as a single girl… that night Lorne Pritchard tied the knot when I married Art Sheppard in a little church on Strawberry Hill in Surrey, B.C. Art spent his last single night at the home of a long time friend, Ingvold Ingvelson.  I walked down the aisle to my slightly nervous bridegroom at 7 p.m.October 1st; 1949. Les Pritchard sang.  Phyliss Burr/King played the wedding march. 16 other preachers were present. The knot was well tied!  It was a foggy night in Ladner where our reception was held. My dad loaned us his car to drive to White Rock where we honeymooned in the Burr cabin on the side of the hill, looking out on the ocean. If those walls could talk!  We went out for breakfast next morning, before making our way to the White Rock Pentecostal church for the a.m. service. The amazing thing today is, the memories are as vivid now as they were when they first originated. Our children have shared us with the world.  On this occasion they wish to celebrate our marriage at a private family dinner at Newlands Golf Course on October 16th. We don’t get together too often and this will be special to us and to them.

November 28th at Sonrise Church in Surrey we will enjoy our Official Celebration. Not only will we be celebrating 60 years of married life.  We will celebrate the 60th Birthday of Sheppard Ministries.
It is hoped that all our friends whom we have met over the last 6 decades (and are not in heaven as yet) will be able to come to the 2-4 p.m. event. More details will be made available at a later date. Many of our friends do not have email access….if you know of anyone who would like to attend, please, let us know their names and phone numbers. Our deepest wish is to make it an ‘old friends’ get-to-together.
